St Lucia: legitimacy
This section tells HM Passport Office staff about legitimacy in St Lucia.
Legitimacy
St Lucia recognises a difference between legitimate and illegitimate births.
A child will be considered:
- legitimate if:
- their parents were married to each other at the time of the birth; or,
- their parents marry after the birth; and,
- the child’s name is included on their parents’ record of marriage; and,
- the parents re-register their child’s birth to accurately record the current legal status of the child, the mother’s married name and the father’s name; and,
- a new birth certificate is issued
- illegitimate if the parents never marry
St Lucia: documents
This section tells HM Passport Office staff about documents in St Lucia.
Birth certificates
All births in St Lucia must be registered within 6 months by a District Registrar of Births and Deaths in the District Registrar office nearest to where the child was born. Late registration is allowed and incurs a fee.
