Migrants and the welfare state: SSAC FOI response

Updated 28 February 2020

Information request

Received: 9 August 2019

I’m trying to obtain some data regarding migrants and the welfare state, specifically those in the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller categories in every borough of London. I have a list of questions regarding how often they claim JSA, how often their claims get rejected etc but I’m having some trouble getting through to the people that actually have this information.

Is this data something that you would hold or could you advise who is best to go to for this information?

Just in case, see the questions I am referring to below, I need these for every borough of London.

  • how many people in the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller category have requested JSA in the last 6 months?
  • how many applications for JSA have been rejected for people in the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller category in the last 6 months and can you give the general reasons why?
  • how many Genuine Prospect of Work assessments have been requested by those in the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller category in the last 6 months? (February 7th- August 7th 2019)
  • how many Genuine prospect of Work assessments have been processed by staff in the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller category in the last 6 months?

The Social Security Advisory Committee is an independent non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It does not hold the other information you have requested.

You may wish to re-direct your request to DWP at freedom-of-information-request@dwp.gov.uk.
