Details

The Department for Education appointed Frontier Economics to undertake a cost benefit analysis of drug policy relating to young people. This project is an element of a broader piece of work being carried out by the Centre for Analysis of Youth Transitions.

There are two main elements of the study:

  • understanding the amount that is spent in total and per person on specialist drug and alcohol services for young people in 2008 to 2009
  • estimating and valuing the benefits of young people’s drug and alcohol treatment - measured as a reduction in the economic and social costs of drug and alcohol misuse
