The Department for Education appointed Frontier Economics to undertake a cost benefit analysis of drug policy relating to young people. This project is an element of a broader piece of work being carried out by the Centre for Analysis of Youth Transitions.
There are two main elements of the study:
understanding the amount that is spent in total and per person on specialist drug and alcohol services for young people in 2008 to 2009
estimating and valuing the benefits of young people’s drug and alcohol treatment - measured as a reduction in the economic and social costs of drug and alcohol misuse
