Details

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs undertook a post implementation review of The Reduction and Prevention of Agricultural Diffuse Pollution (England) Regulations 2018, commonly known as the Farming Rules for Water.

The Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) gave a ‘green’ rating to the PIR from Defra on 27 April 2026. This means that we considered the PIR to be ’fit for purpose’ based on our scrutiny of the evidence and analysis supporting the case for the “amend” recommendation.

The RPC’s opinion refers to the evidence and analysis presented in the PIR, not the policy itself.
