Details

The Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) gave a ‘red’ rating to the impact assessment for the Immigration and Asylum Bill on 11 August 2026. This means that we considered the initial assessment from the Home Office to be ‘not fit for purpose’ based on our scrutiny of the evidence and analysis supporting the case for why regulation is necessary. Our ratings are advisory and do not reflect the merits of the policy itself.

Following a revised submission from the Home Office, the RPC issued a ‘green’ rating on 2 October 2026. This means that we now consider the final version of the impact assessment to be ‘fit for purpose’ based on the quality of the evidence and analysis supporting the case for why regulation is necessary.
