Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Whiston Brook at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 45930 90160.
Water will be obstructed or impeded by an earthfill with a clay core from National Grid References SK 45902 90046 to SK 46210 90262 for the creation of a flood alleviation reservoir.
The capacity of the reservoir at overflow level will be 76,000 cubic metres.
Water will be discharged downstream of the impoundment via the outflow into Whiston Brook at NGR SK 45930 90160.
