In September 2018, the Secretary of State removed commissioners and returned all executive functions to Rotherham metropolitan borough council. A new Direction was put in place requiring the council to undertake an independent review of its performance before 31 March 2019 when the current Direction expires.
The council submitted the independent review to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government on 18 February 2019.
The letter from the Secretary of State for Housing Communities and Local Government and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families to the Leader and Chief Executive of Rotherham council confirms that the Directions will expire on 31 March 2019.
