River Darent, Westerham: proposal for designation change
Published 12 October 2015
The Environment Agency proposes to increase 2 lengths of watercourse which are tributaries of the River Darent at Westerham, Kent that is designated as a ‘main river’.
It proposes to make this change as a ‘determination’ under section 193C(1) of the Water Resources Act 1991. A determination is a formal decision to change the main river map.
The proposed determination is that the watercourse between the following national grid references (NGR), which are shown as additions on the main river consultation map, are to be treated as a main river:
- NGR TQ 44009 53582 and NGR TQ 44034 53651 and
- NGR TQ 44009 53582 and NGR TQ 44302 53691.
The change would mean that the Environment Agency would have the power to carry out work to manage flood risk on this part of the watercourse. The change would also affect how the watercourse is regulated. If you wanted to carry out works in or next to the watercourse, you might have to get consent from the Environment Agency.
