Details
This framework applies to all UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) staff, partners, collaborators and honorary contractors involved in research activities. UKHSA’s research activities (primary and secondary research) within scope include (but are not limited to):
- evaluation of public health tools and interventions
- surveillance and risk assessment of health threats
- behavioural and social science activities
- evidence synthesis
UKHSA is responsible for preparing for, preventing and responding to health security hazards. It is a public sector research establishment contributing to the UK research and innovation landscape and supporting the government by providing science advice to policymakers and delivering critical science services.
UKHSA published its Science Strategy in 2023, detailing its ambitions and commitments to science and research and the importance of collaborative high-quality research to generate evidence, of mechanisms for the open access dissemination of outputs and the effective translation of evidence into actions to protect the health of the public.
It is imperative that the research activities conducted by UKHSA, including in partnership with stakeholders, are relevant, value-for-money, conducted with integrity and translational and its outputs shared openly to improve their impact and trust in the organisation. This document supports the UKHSA Strategy 2026 to 2029 and the Science Strategy in ensuring that activities conducted by the organisation are impactful.
This version of the framework provides an accessible summary for a public audience. A version of the framework containing references to internal policies and guidance is available to UKHSA staff. The internal version is available on request, noting that some links may not be accessible to non-UKHSA staff.
