We have a received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:

  1. The operational procedures in place at present in respect of enforced return (by way of deception, administrative removal or other means) of individuals to the Democratic Republic of Congo, including but not limited to:

(i) The method by which individuals are so returned, including the ports of arrival; and

(ii) The process for exchange of travel documents on arrival.

  1. The manner in which individuals who have been forcibly returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo are processed on arrival by the authorities of that country;

  2. Whether there is any evidence that the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo have any means to differentiating between different classes of involuntary returnees (such as overstayers, failed asylum seekers etc); and

  3. Whether there is any evidence that individuals forcibly returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo have been, directly or indirectly, subjected to harsh treatment on arrival, and if not:

(i) What steps have been taken by the department and agencies of the UK government to ascertain whether or not individuals are subjected to such treatment.
