We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:

How long are records kept on foreigners who are physically refused entry to the UK at a port of entry?

We released the following information on 22 March 2010.

We would hold information on foreign nationals refused entry at port for as long as is necessary for our functions. This is in line with the fifth Data Protection principle, which states that ‘personal data processed for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes.’

In circumstances where a port file is produced we would retain this data for 7 years from the last date of action in line with our agreed retention policy
