This document provides detail on a food product from the UK, Lough Neagh Pollan, which is being considered under the EU protected food names scheme.
We have applied to the EU to get Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status for this product.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) is currently consulting on an application to register “Lough Neagh Pollan” as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). This consultation ends on 3 May 2016.
The EU protected food name scheme covers regional and traditional foods whose authenticity and origin can be guaranteed.
To get a product protected under PDO, it must be produced, processed and prepared in one area and have distinct characteristics from this area.
