In respect of car tests taken by financial year as far back as records are held: Records are only held since the 2004/05 financial year.

Request 1

The number of people, broken down by age and gender, who took the “theory test” in each year and the number who passed?

Please find attached at Annex A details of candidates who have taken their car theory test since 2004/05. This information displays the number of individuals in each age group who have taken the tests rather than the number of tests taken by each age group.

Data for candidates aged 75 and over has been amalgamated into one category. This is to prevent the identification of individuals as the data would then become personal data and be exempt from release under section 40(2) (personal information). A copy of this exemption is attached at Annex D for information.

Request 2

The number of people, broken down by age and gender, who took the “practical test” in each year and the number who passed?

Please find attached at Annex B details of candidates who have taken their car practical test since 2004/05. This information displays the number of individuals in each age group who have taken the tests rather than the number of tests taken by each age group.

Data for candidates aged 75 and over has been amalgamated into one category. This is to prevent the identification of individuals as the data would then become personal data and be exempt from release under section 40(2) (personal information).

Request 3

In respect of candidates aged 17 - 25. The number of people, broken down by age and gender, who took the theory test in each financial year and passed within 2 years before their theory test certificate expired?

Please find attached at Annex C, details of candidates aged 17-25 who have passed their practical test within two years of taking their theory test. The year indicates the year in which they passed their practical test.
