PMETB is the independent regulatory body responsible for postgraduate medical education and training. PMETB aims to improve both the skills of doctors and the quality of healthcare offered to patients and the public.

PMETB does this in three main ways: it sets and secures standards for postgraduate medical education and training; certifies doctors for the GP and specialist registers; independently leads on developing and promoting postgraduate medical education and training.
