Post Office Capture financial redress data as of 31 July 2026

Updated 14 August 2026

The Capture Redress Scheme has been open for applications since 29 October 2025. The scheme is open to postmasters who experienced a financial shortfall as a result of using the Capture software.

As of 31 July 2026, over £8.5 million has been paid to claimants. This includes any payment that contributes to redress, meaning preliminary payments, interim payments and full payments.

Note that, in the previous data publication (with data as of the 26 June 2026), the total paid value was reported as over £7.1 million, but we now understand that it should have been over £7.6 million. The reason for this increase is that some additional payments have since been retrospectively confirmed to have taken place before 26 June 2026.

1.1 Eligibility

As of 31 July 2026, the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) has received 279 complete applications. A complete application means that BIST has received sufficient information to progress the claim onto the next stage of the scheme. This includes undertaking ID checks, requesting disclosure from Post Office Ltd and then assessing the application to determine whether the applicant is eligible for redress.

Of the 279 complete claims, there are:

  • 156 claims undergoing eligibility assessment
  • 107 claims that have been deemed eligible
  • 16 claims that have been deemed ineligible

On confirmation of eligibility, the claimant is entitled to a preliminary payment of £10,000.

1.2 Eligible claims data for Capture Redress Scheme

After confirmation of eligibility, these claims are then assessed by an independent panel before receiving their full offer of financial redress.

Of the 107 eligible claims:

  • 16 are awaiting their offer
  • 10 are considering their offer
  • 81 have settled

Note that we no longer present the breakdown of ‘offers accepted’ and ‘claims paid’, instead providing the number of ‘claims settled’. This will allow us to provide a more complete record of claim and claimant progress in future reports. In the current report, ‘settled’ data reflects claimants who have accepted their final offer through the scheme.
