Updated 16 October 2026

The Capture Redress Scheme has been open for applications since 29 October 2025. The scheme is open to postmasters who experienced a financial shortfall because of using the Capture software.

As of 30 September 2026, over £9.3 million has been paid to claimants. This includes any payment that contributes to redress, meaning preliminary payments, interim payments and full payments.

1.1 Eligibility

As of 30 September 2026, the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) has received 311 complete applications. A complete application means that BIST has received sufficient information to progress the claim onto the next stage of the Scheme. This includes undertaking ID checks, requesting disclosure from Post Office Ltd and then assessing the application to determine whether the applicant is eligible for redress.

Of the 311 complete claims, there are:

  • 157 claims undergoing eligibility assessment
  • 133 claims that have been deemed eligible
  • 21 claims that have been deemed ineligible

On confirmation of eligibility, the claimant is entitled to a preliminary payment of £10,000.

1.2 Eligible claim data for Capture Redress Scheme

After confirmation of eligibility, these claims are then assessed by an independent panel before receiving their full offer of financial redress.

Of the 133 eligible claims:

  • 24 are awaiting their offer
  • 15 are considering their offer
  • 94 have settled

Note that we no longer present the breakdown of ‘offers accepted’ and ‘claims paid’, instead providing the number of ‘claims settled’. This will allow us to provide a more complete record of claim and claimant progress in future reports. In the current report, ‘settled’ data reflects claimants who have accepted their final offer through the scheme.
