Permanent Joint Operating Bases (PJOBs)

Published 12 December 2012

The permanent military presence on the PJOBs contributes to the physical defence and maintenance of sovereignty of the UK overseas territories as well as contributing to the delivery of wider UK Government policy. In some of the PJOBs, administration functions are delivered directly in support of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, but in all aspects, our presence reassures the local populace of our enduring commitment and provides a visible deterrent to any external threats.

The Joint Commands and Overseas Support (JCOS) team, based in Northwood, provides 4* command, direction and assurance to the PJOBs of British Forces Cyprus, British Forces South Atlantic Islands, British Forces Gibraltar and the British Indian Ocean Territory on behalf of Commander JFC.
