Passport design changes

This guidance explains that there will be changes to the design of British passports after 31 January 2020 and when the changes will happen.

     Updated to clarify that blue passports are now being issued.

     Updated with information that the new blue passport design will start being issued from March 2020.

This publication was withdrawn on 25 September 2020

All new passports will now be issued with the blue design.

Details

The design of British passports will change from 31 January 2020. From March 2020, blue passports will start to be issued. All styles of passport will be equally valid for travel.
