Pandemic influenza and its implications for the Mental Health Act 1983

The Mental Health Act 1983 (the 1983 Act) might become ineffective in the face of staff shortages where the pandemic has a severe and prolonged effect on services.

Details

We have drawn up a package of possible temporary changes that we might need to make to the 1983 Act and its associated secondary legislation to enable it to continue to operate as Parliament intended in such circumstances. This would require legislative changes which can only be achieved by central Government intervention.
