FOI release

Overtime

Published 29 November 2010

We were asked whether any of our staff receive payment for answering phone calls out of hours, under what other circumstances staff would qualify for an overtime payment

Press Officers receive a fixed sum allowance for weekend duty rota working. Part of those out-of-hours duties involve answering telephone calls from journalists, but as other duties are also undertaken over the course of a weekend, it is not possible to specify amounts paid for answering telephone calls.

Prior to 20 October 2010, after which all claims relating to overtime in the Wales Office were ceased, staff were eligible for payment to cover any excess urgent business needs. This overtime was agreed in advance and authorised by the relevant line manager.

The total amount paid out to Wales Office staff for overtime in the last 12 months is £3836.85.

Our latest staffing figures as of 11 November 2010 showed a total of 55 staff.
