The One IPO Patents Service overview
Published 10 September 2025
Soon we will be launching our new One IPO patents service. We’ve already invited a small number of patents customers to create their online IPO accounts and start using the service. We are gradually increasing the number of pilot users and testing transactions with them.
The new patents service will offer:
-
a new IPO account that will allow you to view, manage and update all of your UK patents online and in one place.
-
all new digital services for requesting changes to patents, like changing address, changing representative and transferring ownership of patents.
-
a new digital patent application services that will enable you to save and share draft applications, submit information in the order that suits you and collaborate on applications.
-
features to reduce errors and save you time, by reusing information stored in your account.
-
features to help you manage access to your organisation’s patents by creating access groups for specific teams or clients.
Setting up your IPO account
Over the next few months, we will be working closely with organisations that own or manage large numbers of UK patents to help them set-up their IPO account. Other customers will be able to create an IPO account online once it launches in early 2026.
If you have any questions about setting up your IPO account, contact pilot@ipo.gov.uk.
Our existing services
There are three services that are currently used to apply patents in the UK:
-
eOLF (provided by the European Patent Office)
-
WebF (provided by the IPO),
-
Paper (provided by the IPO)
The following changes will be coming into effect:
eOLF
-
all current eOLF users who want access to the new One IPO service by the end of 2025 will be offered it
-
eOLF users should plan to start using the new One IPO service from 1 January 2026, because eOLF will no longer receive technical support from the EPO
-
however, we won’t be taking the ability to apply for a UK patent through eOLF away any sooner than we need to. We intend to accept UK patent applications via eOLF until 1 April 2026 if you are unable to use the One IPO service for any reason
-
PCT applications with the UK as a receiving office must be made via ePCT from 1 January 2026
WebF
- the WebF service will be replaced with our new One IPO service immediately when it goes live to the public
Our new services
When our new One IPO patents service launces:
-
UK patent applications can be submitted via the UK IPO’s new ‘One IPO’ patents service
-
european Patent (EP) applications can be submitted through the EPO’s Online Filing 2.0 service. This can’t be used to file with the UK IPO as a receiving office
-
PCT applications can be made via the World Intellectual Property Office’s (WIPO) ePCT service
-
Paper GB, PCT and EP applications can still be submitted directly the UK IPO
When the One IPO service will go live
A launch date for the new ‘One IPO’ service hasn’t been set yet, but we’re working towards it going live in early 2026. Before we set a launch date, we have to pass a central government assessment, to make sure the service we’re launching meets the highest standards. Once that’s happened we will announce a launch date.
