Details

We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:

I would like to know the number of individuals currently empowered under the accredited persons scheme.

To state my request clearly, I would like to know:

We released the following information on 28 February 2012:

The latest information held by the Home Office can be found at - http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/police/survey-employers-csas-dec2010

Until 2010, the Home Office conducted an annual audit of CSAS accreditation but in order to reduce undue bureaucratic burdens on forces we have stopped the requirement of forces to report their figures to us. However, we are working with forces to support them in publishing details of their schemes at a local rather than a national level. The last survey conducted in December 2010 showed there were 26 forces participating in the scheme with 2,219 individuals accredited with specific powers. Scheme participation has increased annually and we anticipate will continue to rise as forces and organisations continue to recognise the benefits.

The information you have requested is available by contacting forces directly.
We are able to provide you with the list of the specific powers available to individuals accredited under CSAS. This is attached at Annex A.
