FOI release

Number of applications for further driving test to Secretary of State

Published 24 July 2013

This is Freedom of Information request IA/00646/12.

1. Request

The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1999 34. 2 (b) states ‘in a case where the first test is conducted by a DSA examiner and the Secretary of State has, prior to that test, given notice to the person that he will accept an application for a further test to be conducted before the expiry of the relevant period.’

Finally, I would appreciate your feedback on how often this clause has been successfully requested prior to the first test by prospective drivers (given that drivers tend to approach their testing with an expectation of passing and are unlikely to envision a need for this request nor know that the potential to make such a request exists).

2. Response

DSA holds no records about requests or approvals where the Secretary of State has given notice that he will accept an application for a further test to be conducted before the expiry of the relevant period.
