NRS Meriden Aggregates Ltd: application made to abstract water

NRS Meriden Aggregates Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to renew licence serial number MD/028/0011/013, which authorises the abstraction of water for mineral washing from underground strata comprising sand and gravel deposits at Cornets End Quarry, Meriden, Warwickshire at National Grid Reference (NGR) SP 23230 81410. The licence is due to expire on 31 March 2026 and authorises the following abstraction volumes:

743 cubic metres an hour

7,424 cubic metres a day

1,386,935 cubic metres a year

between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.
The application also seeks to remove the existing licensed conditions that require the applicant to:

cease abstraction when the flow in the Horn Brook, as measured by a gauge board at NGR SP 230 812, is equal to or greater than 22.73 cubic metres an hour; and

monitor and maintain the abovementioned gauge board.
