Notification of UK driver's licences in South Korea

The British Embassy in South Korea will no longer issue letters validating UK drivers licences as the Korean authorities will accept an apostilled UK licence.

Customers residing in the Republic of Korea wishing to exchange their UK driver’s licences for a Korean licence should note the following procedures. You must either appear in person with, or send all parts of your original driver’s licence, a photocopy of your passport and a completed driver’s licence form (complete sections 1-6) along with the fee. Please include an additional 3,000 won if you would like your documents returned by post. This service usually takes at least one working day.

In the interest of avoidance of any doubt, the ‘pink card’ UK photo card licence is a two part document. You will have been sent the card along with a paper counter-art. As explicitly noted on the hack of the counterpart, only together do both parts constitute a valid driver’s licence. If you have an old-style paper only licence (and have never been issued a photo card) this alone constitutes your licence.

If you cannot produce all parts of your driver’s licence in original – for example, because one or all parts have been lost or stolen – you must apply for a certificate of entitlement from the British authority which issued your licence. In most cases this will be the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in the UK. Subject to change, the DVLA currently charge £5 for this service. They may be reached on +44 300 790 6801. The certificate of entitlement may either be sent to your address in Korea or faxed to you directly. Either is accepted at the Embassy. Most credit/debit cards are accepted over the phone although we are aware that Solo, Electron and American Express cards are not accepted.

Failure to observe these procedures may result in a rejection of your application. Please note that consular fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.

자동차 운전자 공지사항(운전면허증에 대한)

영국자동차운전면허증을 한국자동차운전면허증으로 교환하고자 하시는 분은, 영국운전면허증 원본(구형, 신형)과 여권 또는 신분증, 운전면허신청서 등을 대사관 영사과로 직접 제출 (0930시-12시) 하시거나, 영사수수료와 함께 우편을 이용하여 보내주시면 됩니다.

우편요금 3,000원을 추가로 더 내시면 대사관 인증서류를 등기우편으로 송부해드립니다.

영국자동차운전면허증은 사진이 부착된 분홍색 운전면허증카드와 종이로 된 “Counterpart” 두 부분으로 구성된 하나의 문서입니다. 따라서 영국운전면허증은 이들 두 가지를 함께 제출하셔야 합니다. “Counterpart” 뒷면에 사진이 부착된 분홍색 운전면허증과 종이로 된“ Counterpart”를 다 가지고 있어야만 유효한 운전면허증이 되기 때문입니다. 과거 종이 형태의 구형운전면허증(사진이 부착된 카드면허증 발급 이전의 면허증)을 발급받으셨을 경우에는 구형 종이 운전면허증만으로도 유효한 면허증으로 인정됩니다.

영국운전면허증을 분실한 경우에는, 영국 운전면허 발급기관인 “DVLA(Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency)” 에 “Certificate of Entitlement” 를 신청하여 면허증 대신 제출하시면 됩니다. “Certificate of Entitlement”는 우편, 또는 팩스로 받아서 대사관에 제출하시면 되며, 영국 운전면허 발급기관(DVLA) 전화번호는 +44 300 790 6801 입니다. 이 서비스에 대한 수수료는 5파운드이나, 변동 될 수 있습니다. 대부분의 신용카드나 영국 직불카드는 전화로 결제가 가능하지만, 반면에 Electron, Solo, American Express등은 사용하실 수 없는 것으로 알고 있습니다.

영국운전면허증을 한국운전면허증으로 교환하고자 하시는 분은, 이상과 같은 유의사항을 참고하여 신청해 주시기 바라며, 환불은 불가하오니 이점 양지 바랍니다.
