Private Storage Aid (PSA) Pigmeat Update 14 January 2022

Defra remains very aware of the challenges that the pig industry continues to face and continues to work closely with pig producers and the processing sector to understand how they can support them through this challenging time.

Defra opened a Private Storage Aid (PSA) Scheme for pigmeat on 16 November 2021 with applications due to close at noon on Wednesday 2 February 2022. However, Defra has agreed to continued support in this area and is extending the Private Storage Aid scheme.

Applications for Private Storage Aid may continue to be made until the earlier of noon on 31 March 2022 or until the application period for Private Storage Aid closes for any other reason. We will inform you in advance if this happens.

Please note that the rules and provisions around product eligibility, rates and storage periods remain unchanged.

Regulatory Background

The applicable regulations are:

  • Retained EU Legislation Regulation1308/2013, 2016/1238 and 2016/1240 as amended by SIs 2019 821, 2019 823, 2019 831 and 2020 1445.
  • Statutory Instrument UKSI 2021/1269
  • Statutory Instrument UKSI 2022/0021, which is expected to come into force on 2 February 2022.
