Details of the applications
Northumbrian Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The following application has been made to replace on the same terms an existing licence which is due to expire on 31 March 2026:
Application NPS/WR/044310; Licence Number: AN/035/0004/014/R01 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Suffolk at TM 33 58; The licence authorises the abstraction of 208 cubic metres per hour, 3,888 cubic metres per day and 1,135,150 cubic metres per year.
The following applications have been made to replace existing time limited variations on the same terms which are due to expire on 31 March 2026:
Application NPS/WR/044255; Licence Number: 7/35/02/G/0083, Source of water, location, and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Suffolk at TM 39 77; The previous variation being: Abstraction from an additional source at rates of 1,091 cubic metres per day. Increase in total abstraction to 2,085,500 cubic metres per year subject to an aggregate with licence 7/35/02/G/0082. The current application is to retain this previously authorised change.
Application NPS/WR/044424; Licence Number 7/35/02/*G/0082, Source of water, location, and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Suffolk at TM 38 75 and TM 37 76; The previous variation being: Abstraction from additional sources at rates of 3,864 and 2,419 cubic metres per day. No change to total quantity authorised. The current application is to retain this previously authorised change.
For all applications the water will be abstracted all year for the purpose of public water supply.
For all applications the Applicant has applied to abstract on the same terms as presently authorised. The Applicant is proposing to accept reductions to the authorised annual abstraction quantities, designed to avoid the risk of waterbody deterioration, being made once new supply schemes are available, citing (amongst other things) over-riding public interest under Regulation 19 of the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2017.
