Details

This document outlines the projects granted under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 during 2015 with a primary purpose of basic research: gastrointestinal system including liver.

The following projects were granted:

  • intestinal carcinogenesis studies (cancer, intestine, radiation, x-rays)

  • troy+ stem cells in homeostasis, repair and cancer (stem cells, dynamics, hierarchy, tissue regeneration)

  • understanding liver fibrosis using rat models (liver disease, scar, rat, therapy)

  • molecular basis of enteric bacterial infections (bacteria, infection, diarrhoea, e.coli)

  • cell death, inflammation and cancer in the GI tract (intestine, stomach, apoptosis, inflammation, cancer)

  • intestinal barrier function: the role of epithelial and immune cells (intestine, immune cell, epithelium, microflora, SOCS3)

  • dietary manipulation or supplementation on rumen function (rumen, diet, bolus, acidosis, fistula)

  • understanding inflammation, fibrosis and cancer (scarring, liver cancer, drugs)

  • periostin in nerve regeneration and IBD (inflammation, inflammatory bowel disease, regeneration, nerves)

  • adaptations of the host and pathogen during infection (clostridium difficile, escherichia coli, inflammation, diet, gut)

  • gut tumorigenesis (intestine cancer, polyp, crypt)
