National Gas Transmission plc: applications made to abstract water

Details of the applications

National Gas Transmission plc has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The applications are for licences to abstract water from the North West Norfolk Sandringham Sands at three construction sites near West Winch, King’s Lynn, to transfer it to tributaries of Puny Drain at west of West Winch without intervening use.

One application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 63 cubic metres an hour

  • 1,512 cubic metres a day

  • 120,000 cubic metres a year

  • between 1 May and mid-December 2026.

One application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 18 cubic metres an hour

  • 432 cubic metres a day

  • 50,000 cubic metres a year

  • between 1 June and mid-December 2026.

Both abstractions will take place only when there is a need to dewater excavations.

The associated discharge permit application reference is EPR/AP3020MR/A001.
