MWH Treatment Limited: application made to abstract water

MWH Treatment Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Branksome Sand Formation between National Grid References SZ 15291 94466, SZ 15353 94526, SZ 15468 94411 and SZ 15357 94269 to transfer it to the River Avon at SZ 15488 93745 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 144 cubic metres an hour

  • 3,456 cubic metres a day

  • 1,261,440 cubic metres a year

  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Dewatering is required to allow for construction of new facilities at Knapp Mill Sewage Treatment Works. An environmental permit for the discharge of the abstracted water has also been applied for (application reference EPR/FP3627LB/A001).
