Details

This report assesses the economic theory underpinning the move to more or less productive jobs with a particular focus on when jobs are relocating to less productive regions.

It also reviews the existing methods set out in transport analysis guidance (TAG) for assessing the move to more or less productive jobs, and whether these practices are still relevant.

The main findings include:

  • the reaffirmation that a move to more or less productive jobs will lead to a wider impact if productivity differences exist between localities
  • that we should consider revisiting and updating the guidance on M2MLPJ in TAG, providing short- and long-term recommendations
