Lobbying in this context means that Mr Aspden should not personally communicate with Government (including Ministers; special advisors and officials) as a representative of their new employer with a view to influencing a Government decision or policy in relation to his interests or the interests of his organisation.

In addition to this, Mr Aspden should pay particular attention to doing due diligence on, and flagging, any potential conflicts of interest, especially in connection with his previous work on AUKUS communications for a minimum of twelve months from his last day in crown service.

If he is applying for clearance to set up an independent consultancy, he must not make use of his contacts in any companies into whose provision of services into the UK MOD he exercised influence as part of his most recent role whilst serving, to seek to win work for his consultancy for twelve months from his last day in Crown Service.
