The Medical Implications of Less-Lethal Weapons Expert Committee (MILLWEC) gives advice to government on the effects of less-lethal weapons on the human body.

MILLWEC vacancies

MILLWEC is recruiting for new members and a new chair.

Members

MILLWEC is looking for people with:

  • scientific backgrounds: you should have senior-level experience in clinical or academic work, or research – in areas related to how less-lethal weapons affect humans
  • lay backgrounds: you should be able to confidently offer independent views, represent the public’s interest, think critically and make sound judgments

Chair

MILLWEC is looking for someone experienced at serving on committees at a senior level.

About the appointments

Appointment period: Up to 3 years with the possibility of re-appointment if your performance is rated as satisfactory.

Location: Central London or remotely. 

Time commitment: Up to 10 to 15 days a year. 

Payment: Unpaid, but you can claim for travel and meal costs. 

How to apply

  • a CV setting out your career history and any professional qualifications
  • a cover letter including:
    • which role you’re applying for
    • why you think you’re suitable for the role
    • contact details for 2 referees
    • information about any conflict or potential conflict of interest
  • a completed diversity monitoring form

The closing date for applications is 3 November 2025, 11:59pm.
