The rapid digitalisation of the UK economy has brought unprecedented opportunities for growth, innovation and productivity. However, this transformation has also introduced complex cyber security challenges, particularly in the domains of software and artificial intelligence (AI).
This report presents findings from research with software security and AI security providers. It maps the software security and AI security markets to understand what services and tools they offer, their awareness and the extent to which their services link with the principles in the government’s Software Security Code of Practice, AI Security Code of Practice and ETSI’s AI security global standard, EN 304 223. The requirements in the latter two documents are the same.
The research was commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and carried out by Pye Tait Consulting. The research surveyed 200 software security providers and 50 AI security providers between November 2025 and January 2026, supported by engagement with businesses identified through previous market analysis and additional desk research.
This research is part of the government’s wider work to understand the cyber security implications of critical and emerging technologies, and to support improvement of the UK’s cyber resilience.
