Announced in the green paper Work, health and disability: improving lives, this is an expression of interest exercise for local authorities to work with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to jointly deliver employment support to individuals who have:

  • a learning disability
  • autism
  • a severe mental condition

This proof of concept is aimed at individuals who are getting Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit, and are either known to Adult Social Care or in contact with secondary mental health services.

We want to explore how we can combine central and local budgets to enhance delivery of supported employment locally, with a view to seeing if this support can be rolled out nationally.
