​​On 19 November 2025, the Minister of State for Local Government and Homelessness, Alison McGovern, wrote to the leaders of West Sussex councils to inform them of the launch of the West Sussex local government reorganisation consultation.​

For the purposes of the consultation, the proposals in West Sussex and East Sussex and Brighton and Hove have been grouped together.
