Example 1: Overpayment of Housing Benefit

An LA received a HBMS referral for rule HBUC007 where both Housing Benefit and Universal Housing Costs were in payment at the same time and the claimant had not reported the change of circumstances. After receiving the HBMS referral the HB processor identified that the claimant had been overpaid housing benefit of £19.20 for 7 weeks.

The following fields are already populated by DWP:

  • Referral Number
  • Rule Number
  • Match date
  • LA Reference Number
  • Housing Benefit Discrepancy
  • Housing Benefit Overpayment

Example 2: LA already investigating the case before receiving the HBMS referral

An LA received a HBMS referral for rule HBIB005 where the customer had failed to notify the LA of a change of address.

The following fields are already populated by DWP:

  • Referral Number
  • Rule Number
  • Match date
  • LA Reference Number
