This grant allocation is for local authorities taking part in the kinship allowance pilot, as part of the Kinship Zones programme.
The February 2026 grant determination letter outlines how the allocation of £77,000 will be split and used between participating local authorities. The funding is to help with the costs of promoting the pilot through local outreach communications.
The pilot will test if regular financial support for kinship carers, paid at the same rate as the national minimum fostering allowance, can improve the stability and sustainability of kinship arrangements.
Kinship care is any situation in which a child is being raised in the care of a friend or family member, who is not their parent.
