This research aims to understand international teacher recruitment in England. It examines:

  • motivations and experiences of international teachers and teacher trainees
  • practices and perceptions of schools and multi-academy trusts (MATs) when recruiting international teachers
  • the role of initial teacher training (ITT) providers and recruitment agencies in supporting international trainee and teacher recruitment
  • barriers and enablers to international recruitment
  • the influence of different policies, such as the international relocation payment (IRP)

The report includes findings from:

  • surveys with international teachers and trainees
  • interviews with international teachers and trainees teaching or training in England
  • interviews with school and MAT leaders, recruitment agencies and ITT providers
