Committee Update - 17 December 2025

Published 17 December 2025

Commemorative Event - 19 November

Thank you so much to those who joined us at Church House. It was wonderful to see so many people get involved. This symbolises how important it is to recognise and remember all those infected and/or affected by this scandal.

If you were unable to attend, or would like a reminder of the day, you can find a summary of the day. You are also able to access the YouTube live stream of the day through this page.

Memorial Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral

There will be a national service of remembrance for the infected blood community at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Tuesday 19 May 2026. Further information about the service.

This service will be for members of the infected blood community. Supporters and champions of the infected blood community are also welcome.

As with any venue, St. Paul’s has a limited capacity. While we want everyone to be able to attend, this may not be possible. To help the Committee plan for this event please register your, or your loved one’s, interest in attending.

Register your interest in attending the St. Paul’s Memorial Service by 22 January 2026

Please encourage anyone you would like to attend to complete this form too.

Many people have asked whether the Memorial Committee will cover attendance expenses. As you know, the Committee has a finite budget to deliver Sir Brian Langstaff’s recommendations on memorialisation.

The Committee will need to consider how best to spend this money across all its activities. The Committee will confirm their approach to expenses by the end of January.

1st Committee Meeting

The appointed Memorial Committee held its first meeting on Tuesday 9 December. During this, they discussed:

  • Their ways of working together and the Terms of Reference
  • Community feedback and ideas for memorialisation
  • Initial plans for St. Paul’s Cathedral Memorial Service

You can read the minutes of this meeting. The Committee’s Terms of Reference will be published once they are formally agreed at the next Committee meeting in January.

Other Memorials

There has already been a huge amount of work to memorialise the infected blood scandal. The Committee will do everything in its power to support existing work where needed. We wanted to keep the community up to date with this.

The Inquiry Memorial

  • Manchester University will permanently house the Inquiry Memorial. Currently, at first it will be displayed in the in the Carriageway Arch
  • After three years, a similar publicly-accessible site will house it on campus
  • Manchester University is preparing the display for visitors and the Inquiry will let everyone know when you can visit

Treloar’s Memorial

  • The Treloar’s Memorial Committee has finalised its chosen design - a bronze sculpture of two boys
  • The local council has granted planning permission for the memorial at Treloar’s School
  • The next stage is working with an artist and foundry to build the design

Scotland Memorial

  • Over 10 years £40,000 has been raised to build a Scottish Memorial, and work continues to find a suitable location for the memorial
  • This year the Scottish Memorial Working Group asked a public arts consultant to help with locations, costs and stakeholder involvement
  • A new interactive display about the infected blood disaster in Scotland was added to the permanent public exhibition in the Scottish Parliament. Further information

Keeping up-to-date on the Infected Blood Memorial Committee’s progress

The Committee wants to keep the community updated on their progress. We will only be emailing updates to those who have signed up to our mailing list. This is to avoid overloading the infected blood community with information.

  • You can keep up to date by signing up to our mailing list
  • And, you can regularly check our webpages

The Committee is looking forward to continuing their work in the New Year on behalf of the infected blood community.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

The Infected Blood Memorial Committee
