Independent Review of Disclosure and Fraud Offences

In December last year, I set out my plans and approach for undertaking Part One of my Review, which focuses on the criminal disclosure regime.

Since that time, I have held – and am continuing to hold - a considerable number of very insightful meetings with professionals across the criminal justice system, who uphold the disclosure regime daily including, but not limited to, investigators, prosecutors, and defence professionals.

I am also supported by my two advisory panels of practitioners and representatives of organisations that deliver many important functions of the criminal justice system. I would like to thank the Bar Council and the Law Society for agreeing to convene meetings of their committees to canvass views on behalf of their members for submission to the Review.

I am grateful to the judiciary, who have taken a keen interest in the Review, and thankful to JUSTICE for agreeing to host their upcoming roundtable discussions in support of this work.

In April, once I have concluded my programme of engagement, I intend to publish my provisional findings and a direction of travel ahead of delivering my recommendations to the Home Secretary in the Summer.

I am grateful to all those who have been so generous with their time and expertise thus far, demonstrating the dedication and commitment of those professionals upon which the effective delivery of criminal justice relies.
