The role of the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (IASC), its functions and powers were established in the landmark Modern Slavery Act 2015 (MSA). This charges the Commissioner with ‘encouraging good practice sharing’ in the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of modern slavery, and support for victims. They also support the carrying out of research to improve our understanding of modern slavery and how it can best be tackled.
The Commissioner works across the UK with public authorities, the sector, businesses, and law enforcement to pursue these goals.
This annual report covers the period from the Commissioner’s appointment in December 2023 to March 2025.
