The Commission announced in the Official Journal ref. 2021/C66/14, the initiation of an investigation concerning the possible extension of EU safeguard measures applicable to imports into EU of certain steel products.
During the investigation, the Commission will focus its assessment on whether:
- the safeguard measure continues to be necessary after 30 June 2021 to prevent or remedy serious injury
- there is evidence that union producers are adjusting
- an extension would be in the union interest
The investigation will also determine the appropriate duration of any extension.
The investigation is expected to conclude before the measures are due to expire on 30 June 2021.

Please note the Trade Remedies Investigations Directorate are currently reviewing the UK steel safeguard measures.
