IBCA Community Update, 2 June 2025
Published 2 June 2025
The compensation calculator for people who are affected is now available
We promised to let you know as soon as the compensation calculator for people who are affected is available. This is now live on our website, and you can use it to get an estimate of your compensation amount for an affected claim. This includes partners, parents, children, siblings, and unpaid carers of infected people.
This is an update to the first version of our compensation calculator, which we launched in March for those who are infected or claiming on behalf of their estates. You can now use the calculator to estimate a claim if you are infected, claiming for an estate, or if you are affected.
Currently you will only be able to work out one compensation estimate at a time so you will need to calculate claims separately if you expect to make more than one claim. The calculator will use prompts to guide you through the process you need to follow.
If you are affected in multiple ways, or you are both infected and affected, we continue to improve the calculator to better support you. This update will be ready within the next few weeks and we will let you know when it is available.
We’ve worked together with community representatives and individuals who’ve helped us to make sure the calculator meets your needs. Thank you to those who have helped with the testing so far.
Support using the calculator
You can find the calculator on our website. The step by step process tells you what information you need before you start and what to enter at every stage.
We recommend you also watch our YouTube video which introduces the calculator, walks you through an example journey and takes you through the process step by step.
IBCA Compensation Calculator for affected people
The calculator will help you understand what compensation you may be eligible for, but it is not the start of your compensation claim. We will let you know when you can start your claim.
Calculations are based on the information you provide, so the actual amount of your compensation could change if more or different information is used when your claim begins.
When your claim starts with an IBCA claim manager you’ll work through and agree what information is used in your calculation.
When you make your claim you’ll need to provide supporting documents. The information and documents you may need are listed on our website.
Our latest compensation figures
We’ve published our latest compensation figures on our website - these are accurate as of 20 May 2025.
We publish all our figures every two weeks on our website, and the next figures will be available this Thursday 5 June.
Sharing our figures fortnightly means we can check everything is correct before we publish to give you a consistent and accurate picture.
A quick reminder - please be aware of potential fraud
We’re putting ways of preventing, detecting and addressing fraud in place so we can ensure compensation reaches only the people who are eligible.
Contact us if you’re concerned about a message or phone call and want to check if it’s from us, or if you have a general fraud query related to IBCA. You can call 0141 726 2397 or email fraud@ibca.org.uk.
If you’ve been a victim of fraud or cybercrime, report it via the Action Fraud website or by calling 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, contact the police by calling 101. You should also report it to your bank immediately.
