IBCA Community Update, 17 March 2025
Published 17 March 2025
Hello,
Today we are writing to let you know that the compensation calculator is now available on our website.
Thank you for your patience as we tested it over the weekend to make sure everyone can access it.
The compensation calculator is now available
The first stage of our calculator
We have listened to feedback asking for a calculator that you can use to work out the compensation you may be eligible for. Today we’ve published the first version of the compensation calculator on our website.
The calculator can currently be used by living infected people or people making a claim on behalf of an estate. For affected people, we will develop the calculator further after the relevant regulations are in place.
A small number of people who have been invited to start their compensation claim have already helped us to test this new calculator, and we will continue to improve it as we go.
It is important to say that using the calculator does not mean that you are starting your compensation claim, and we won’t be able to run through the calculator amount with you until you start your claim.
The calculator is a tool you can use to understand the possible amount of compensation you might receive, but doesn’t start or replace your actual claim process.
The figure the calculator gives you is based on the information you provide at the time. When you start making your claim, we may ask you for more or different records or information that may not have been taken into account when you used the calculator. This means that your actual compensation figure when you claim may be different from the figure generated by you.
The next version of the calculator will support affected people to understand the compensation claim they might be eligible for. We are aiming for this to be available on our website by the end of April and will keep you updated.
Support in using the calculator
You can access the calculator on our website.
You can watch Celine McLoughlin, Director of Digital and Service at IBCA, on our YouTube channel explaining why we’ve created the calculator.
Although we won’t be able to discuss your calculation with you until your claim begins, we have created step-by-step videos guiding you through the calculator process for living infected people or if you are making a claim on behalf of an estate.
We will not be able to answer questions about specific cases if you haven’t yet started your claim, and will not be able to see the results you get if you use the calculator online, so please do not call our helpline about your calculation.
At our next community webinar on 15 April, we will also run through how the calculator works, answer questions and welcome your feedback.
When you are invited to make your claim, your Claim Manager will discuss your own circumstances in detail, and take into account anything else that you think should be included. They will agree all this with you before making a detailed claim calculation, that you can then agree with or query.
