These Guidelines for Compliance (GfC) are for businesses who can claim capital allowances for expenditure on plant or machinery. They highlight common areas of error in claims.

  1. We have removed the survey link from the Details section. Updates made at part 2 to both the qualifying expenditure and a change to the business cars section which is now called the cars section with further changes within it. Additional sections have been also included on 40% first-year allowance and hybrid writing down allowance.

  2. Common areas of error in claims for plant and machinery allowances (part 2) has been updated. The Furnished Holiday Lettings (FHL) tax regime was repealed from April 2025. Information about qualifying activities and thermal insulation for FHL has been updated.

  3. A survey to encourage feedback on Guidelines for Compliance has been added.
