This Prison Service Instruction  sets out the mandatory requirements, legal duties and guidance for both managers and staff together with guidance and information to ensure management of manual handling risks to staff and prisoners proportionately and in line with the legal requirements in the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 which set out a framework for employers to manage the risk to their employees.
