This document will enable the Environment Agency to develop a more consistent approach to underground fuel storage tank (UST) planning review policy. Specifically, it aims to provide guidance which will enable assessment of the groundwater pollution risk posed by proposed UST installations through consideration of the hydrogeological regime and an appreciation of the various levels of protection which can be afforded by the current control engineering measures available.
