Study providing data to calculate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions made when producing fuel from fossil wastes and residues, such as:

  • mixed household waste
  • solid recovered fuels
  • waste industrial gases

The study identified the:

  1. current end-of-life (EoL) fate of each of the wastes
  2. the volumes of waste generated and disposed of via each EoL fate within the UK
  3. the greenhouse gas emissions produced by diverting wastes from the existing disposal process to instead create fuel

Findings from this research will be used to calculate the potential GHG emission savings from producing fuels from UK fossil wastes and residues plus to support policy analysis on deciding if these fuels should be supported under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation.
