Details

ILiAD Biotechnologies, Inc and hVIVO Services Ltd have applied to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) for consent to perform a deliberate release of genetically modified Bordetella pertussis for research and development purposes.

We invite representations on any risks of damage being caused to the environment by the release applied for in this application (reference 26/R59/01).

We must receive your representation by 5 July 2026. Representations received after this date will not be considered.

Additional personal data we collect and how it is used

When you make a representation, Defra collects and uses the content of your letter. We use this additional personal data to fulfil a statutory requirement to consider representations made relating to any risks of damage to the environment by a proposed release of a genetically modified organism. 

You can withdraw your consent up to 28 days following a decision made on the application. After this date, we will have anonymised and combined your data with other survey data and will not be able to extract it. 

To withdraw your consent, contact us at  gm-regulation@defra.gov.uk.

How long Defra holds personal data

Defra will keep your personal data either for 3 years after the end of the statutory consideration period for the GMO release application or until the end of the release, whichever is longer.
